Who Knew Tarot Could Be This Funny?
Part tarot primer, part memoir, this illustrated collection of humorous essays takes the reader on an unexpectedly funny and fearlessly frank journey through the tarot deck.
Annie Carmitchell often uses her tarot decks as a tool for spiritual guidance, and during a late-night chat with her sister it occurred to her that almost every shared memory reminded her of a particular tarot card. Friends had long urged Carmitchell to write a book, and she had finally found her hook. Two years and many sisterly conversations later, the 310-page, illustrated book of 58 “fun-sized” chapters, each relating a tarot card to a story from her own life, is ready for publication.
Few topics are off limits. Carmitchell tackles IBS in the “The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre” (Four of Wands card), recalls an embarrassing doctor visit in “My, How You’ve Grown” (the Lovers card), and recounts a brush with danger in “The Sky Ride” (the Hanged Man card). Though most chapters are light-hearted, some of the book’s more reflective passages touch upon her sister’s coming out, their parents’ deaths, and an experience with past life regression.
