CONVERSATIONS WITH MY SISTER: A FOOL’S JOURNEY THROUGH THE TAROT

By Annie Carmitchell

Who Knew Tarot Could Be This Funny?

Part tarot primer, part memoir, this illustrated collection of humorous essays takes the reader on an unexpectedly funny and fearlessly frank journey through the tarot deck.

Annie Carmitchell often uses her tarot decks as a tool for spiritual guidance, and during a late-night chat with her sister it occurred to her that almost every shared memory reminded her of a particular tarot card. Friends had long urged Carmitchell to write a book, and she had finally found her hook. Two years and many sisterly conversations later, the 310-page, illustrated book of 58 “fun-sized” chapters, each relating a tarot card to a story from her own life, is ready for publication.

Few topics are off limits. Carmitchell tackles IBS in the “The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre” (Four of Wands card), recalls an embarrassing doctor visit in “My, How You’ve Grown” (the Lovers card), and recounts a brush with danger in “The Sky Ride” (the Hanged Man card). Though most chapters are light-hearted, some of the book’s more reflective passages touch upon her sister’s coming out, their parents’ deaths, and an experience with past life regression.

THE STILLMEADOW YEARS: THE RHYTHM OF LIFE ON ONE FAMILY FARM

By Heather Erickson, Tim Erickson, and Laura Erickson Carter

Do you remember in sights or sounds? For one family, the 1970s and 80s were filled with small moments in and around the farm that will never be forgotten. Waking to piano notes lilting from the music room and the sizzle of fresh eggs in the kitchen . . . scanning the horizon for a hint of rain or waiting for the first bean seedlings to pop through the soil . . . listening for the rumbling of tractors in spring or the gentle lowing of mama cows as they get their sunrise bucket of feed . . . tasting the bitter salt of sweat from hauling hay or the cooling breezes of a picnic under the trees . . . these everyday events in those simpler days seem more welcome than ever today. A labor of love for siblings Heather Erickson, Tim Erickson, and Laura Erickson Carter, The Stillmeadow Years: The Rhythm of Life on One Family Farm is a collection of family history, childhood memoirs, and biographical poetry that paint a picture of how a Midwestern family gave their all to one family farm.

CALLAWAY COUNTY: A PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNAL

When old friend and incredibly talented photographer Notley Hawkins asked me to help him create his first book, commissioned and funded by the Kingdom of Callaway Chamber of Commerce, I knew it would be no ordinary project. Notley handed me a few DVDs of his photos—hundreds of shots taken all around Callaway County, Missouri, one more dazzling than the next—and I went to work turning it all into a book, from concept to copywriting to design and layout.
